Dr Ren will be presenting a seminar talk at the UNSW Physics colloquium on 2nd December 2021 (2-3 pm in Sydney time).
Title:
Meta-optics: from fundamentals to applications
Abstract:
Meta-optics, which allows complete wavefront control of light by ultrathin subwavelength structures, has offered a transformative platform for both fundamental study of light–matter interactions at a nanoscale and a diverse range of photonic applications. In this talk, I will summarize recent metasurface devices developed for wavefront control in both far- and near-field regions, from design principle to exemplary devices. I will highlight our recent works in meta-optics, introducing a nanophotonic chip for twisted light manipulation; 3D meta-optics with unleashed height degree of freedom for twisted light holography and on-fibre wavefront control, as well as for plasmonic sensing via symmetry-protected bound states in the continuum; and very recently vectorial metasurfaces for creating optical skyrmions in free-space.
